Press Statement

It is known to all that Nepali-speaking people of Darjeeling area under West Bengal, India have been struggling for Gorkhaland since long and many people have attained martyrdom in this course. People have again resorted to movement against government’s decision of making Bengali language compulsory in the curriculum and have added the demand for Gorkhaland in it. The movement has been ruthlessly suppressed by the government and the agitators are fired and tortured. Three individuals have attained martyrdom in this course. These are very distressing events.

Therefore, our party strongly condemns the brutal suppression carried out by West Bengal government upon the agitating people. Also, our party forcefully urges the West Bengal government, India to address the genuine demands placed by Nepali-speaking Indian people of Darjeeling area, provide appropriate compensation to the bereaved families by declaring people’s sons and daughters died in the movement as martyrs and stop the suppression being enforced by the state upon the peaceful movement.
